As a teenager, Tami McCandlish loved life.  She was an honor-roll student, a star athlete, and was happy, outgoing, and confident. But those blissful days were cut short when the highly destructive strategies of an all-girl alliance sent her emotional well-being and stability into a downward spiral.

As a result of the abuse by her peers, McCandlish found herself becoming a reactive aggressor, a characterization that further ostracized her from her classmates, friends, and community and left her pleading to God that He would end her life.  Not until her adult years did she connect with the power of Jesus Christ and overcome the many wounds of her past.

Tami McCandlish’s Flying Grounded illustrates the complex problems and secret suffering felt by many girls and women.  Through her extensively chronicled experiences, McCandlish successfully demonstrates the importance of helping young girls and women find the validation they need to cope with bullying.  She also challenges you to evaluate your relational experiences, raise your standards of compassion, and explore your faith.

Touching upon a little-known topic, Flying Grounded offers hope and inspiration for those who suffer from girl bullying.

“From page one, I couldn't put this book down. Tami McCandlish's account of female bullying hits at the core of society's dark secrets. I never realized how much I had internalized and suffocated my own insecurities and experiences in junior high until this book. Flying Grounded forced me to face my own experiences and to re-evaluate how I treat others, both women and men. Thank you for allowing me to share in your story and, in the process learn from my own.”

“This book is an excellent combination of documented research and raw personal experiences. The author vividly shares her life experiences and vulnerability in order to help others. As the parent of a teenage son, I found that this book offered me many opportunities to talk to my son about how to recognize and avoid being caught-up in the destructive dynamics of girl bullying. I think all of us know that this type of hurtful behavior doesn't end with high school. This book is a great read regardless of gender or age.”

I couldn't put this book down. It's an excellent read for young teens and women. It's obvious that the author has put her heart and soul into this and clearly wants to help others by showing them that you can make it through the tough times if you put your trust in Jesus Christ, as she did. She has taken a bad time in her life and turned it around to use it to help others who may be experiencing relational aggression or bullying. I applaud her for bravely telling her story and putting it all out there! We can all learn from it.

I just started reading this book last night, and I can't put it down. The story is brutal and honest, and an inspiration for women and girls who are trying to heal from horrible high school events. I do recommend this book.

The author has put her heart and soul into this book, allowing you, the reader, to relive her tumultuous youthful years. She does a wonderful job of conveying to you how much hurt and angst a person can go through when being bullied. As a female who has been through this same situation, I can wholeheartedly relate to the author’s story. She shows that it is possible through the love and support of family and friends and with
God's help, to become a better and stronger person.
